Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Consultation (2025)
I am engaged by Parenting for Lifelong Health (PLH), an international development charity supporting families across the globe, to develop a five-year DEI Action Plan and deliver bespoke management training. This project aligns PLH’s internal practices with its external mission of equity and inclusion, with an emphasis on building an inclusive, respectful, and playful workplace culture.
Over eight weeks, I have conducted a DEI audit that included qualitative research with staff, a benchmarking review of existing practices, and the development of actionable recommendations to assess organizational needs. I designed and conducted interviews, synthesised insights using thematic analysis, and produced a comprehensive final report containing key priorities for the charity moving forward.
The Action Plan is a central output of the project, addressing areas such as inclusive recruitment, power dynamics, and long-term organizational culture change. The training session is based around key themes that emerged from the interview process and now forms the foundation of an internal learning resource for the organisation.
This project delivers practical approaches and strategic direction to help PLH embed equity into its operations. It strengthens their capacity to attract and retain diverse talent, improves internal alignment with mission values, and lays the groundwork for a more inclusive workplace culture across all levels.
Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Champion (2024)
I delivered several pieces of work for the Royal Albert Hall as part of their Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Champions Team. In this role, I advocated strongly for a workplace culture of fairness and inclusion. This work included gathering and reporting feedback from my department to the EDI Core Group, contributing to the refinement of organizational policies, and designing and delivering awareness-raising activities such as the Black History Month 2024 events programme.
A central aspect of my work involved consulting on key policies, including the Anti-Bullying and Harassment Policy and the "How to Report an EDI Concern" flowchart. I also collaborated on addressing visitor experience issues, such as improving communication around the Hall's gender-neutral bathrooms and advocating for permanent Quiet Spaces within the Hall, one for staff and one for visitors. The visitor Quiet Space has materially improved accessibility for guests with sensory challenges, for example, who often require a calm, secluded area away from the busyness and loudness of the Hall.
For Black History Month, I curated an internal exhibition showcasing the Hall’s historical engagement with Black music, which included archival materials and innovative storytelling techniques for the exhibition copy. This exhibition, along with two additional events, significantly increased staff knowledge of the Hall’s history and fostered pride in its cultural legacy.
This project delivered measurable improvements in staff satisfaction and inclusivity. It also resulted in actionable changes to workplace policies and procedures, benefiting both staff and visitors. Collaborating across departments allowed me to leverage diverse expertise and resources, ensuring the success of the initiatives.
Student Fellow for Decolonising the Curriculum (2021–22)
This yearlong Fellowship involved a number of projects focused on enhancing equity and inclusion in higher education. I led a project on decolonizing the curriculum, focusing on how diversity and equity considerations can shape teaching and learning practices. This role combined independent research with event planning, delivering both practical outcomes and strategic recommendations for the University.
My work involved designing surveys, interviews, and focus group protocols to collect qualitative data from staff and students. Using thematic analysis, I identified key themes that informed the structure and content of the final report. This report offered actionable recommendations for teaching staff, researchers, and future Fellows, leading to notable changes within my Department, including revised curriculum descriptions and enhanced communication about learning stages.
In addition to my research, I collaborated with other Fellows to organize institution-wide events, including a Student Hackathon on belonging in education and a conference (‘The Compassionate Conference’) exploring hopeful and affective (i.e., feelings-based) approaches to teaching. These events engaged students and staff in shaping inclusive teaching practices and institutional priorities.
This project was rewarding for its tangible impact on curriculum design and the collaborative opportunities it provided. My research has influenced long-term changes in departmental curriculum reviews, ensuring that diversity and decolonization remain key priorities in teaching and learning.
